The platysma is the neck muscle that runs downwards along the jawline. As we age, this muscle loses natural tension, causing the contours to blur and a double chin to form. In addition, the skin's ability to retain moisture and regenerate diminishes, which means it also becomes increasingly slack and wrinkles form. Furthermore, the vertical bands of the platysma muscle become visible even with slight tension, for example when speaking or making facial expressions. Due to the delicate skin structure of the neck and its diminishing tension, these bands become increasingly prominent with age. There are many measures that are said to delay the formation of these neck wrinkles, such as using moisturising skincare or so-called face yoga. However, these interventions have no real effect on the formation of these wrinkles. Ultimately, the formation of neck wrinkles cannot be prevented as we age – which is why many people consider a platysma treatment with botulinum toxin.

Platysma tightening with Botox® by Aesthetify
A firm neck and a wrinkle-free décolletage have long been regarded as signs of youthfulness and freshness, and today they are a widely sought-after beauty ideal. The skin around the neck and décolletage is thinner and more delicate than in other areas of the body – which is why the skin in these areas loses elasticity more readily and wrinkles form. The muscle along the jawline pulls downwards, accelerating the ageing process. So that annoying neck wrinkles no longer need to be hidden under a polo neck jumper, they can now be treated with Botox®. Botoxing this muscle can lift the face to some extent. Or better still: start early and don't let it get that far in the first place.

Frequently Asked Questions about Platysma Tightening
The effect of treatment with Botox® can last anywhere from three months to a year, depending on individual factors. However, a treatment with botulinum toxin can safely be repeated several times, so once the effect wears off, the treatment can be carried out again following a consultation with your doctor. With regular botulinum toxin treatment, a preventive effect against new wrinkles forming can even be observed.
No special aftercare is needed, but you can complement the treatment with a SCULPTRA® treatment. After treatment with Botox®, you are generally fit for social occasions again immediately. If needed, however, you can cool the affected areas and cover any redness that may occur with make-up. In addition, you should avoid strenuous physical activity, sunbed and sauna visits, and direct sun exposure, at least on the day of treatment, but ideally also for the following three days.
The cost of a platysma Botox® treatment ranges between €400.00 and €600.00. A SCULPTRA® treatment is available from €650.00 per vial.
Fundamentally, wrinkle treatment with Botox® is a low-risk treatment. The challenge for the practitioner lies in finding the right dosage for the injection, as both too high and too low a dosage can negatively affect the result. However, thanks to our years of experience and our focus on minimally invasive procedures, you are in very good hands with us. Nevertheless, we are happy to provide further information in a detailed consultation and address all your concerns.
With a professional treatment, you can expect hardly any side effects. Possible side effects include swelling and redness at the affected site or slight pain at the injection site. Allergic reactions to the Botox® cannot be completely ruled out either, but they are quite unlikely. These possible side effects can easily be countered by cooling the affected areas and, if needed, by taking over-the-counter pain relievers.
