Injecting smoker's lines with Botox®
by Aesthetify

Smoking can lead to many health problems, but it can also cause unsightly wrinkles around the mouth known as “smoker’s lines”. Smoker’s lines are not only caused by smoking, but by the formation of a pointed mouth in general. In addition, the skin around the mouth becomes thinner with age due to the loss of collagen and wrinkles appear more frequently. Muscle tone increases, the mouth is subconsciously pointed more often and becomes smaller, the lips become narrower and wrinkles appear around the mouth.

Injecting smoker's lines

Course of treatment

Procedure

The treatment of smoker’s wrinkles takes place on an outpatient basis in the Aesthetify practice. Information is provided and the treatment is carried out by specialist staff. The treatment only takes about 15 – 30 minutes. The affected area is locally anesthetized with a cream.

The botulinum toxin – also known as Botox® is injected with a thin needle. Botulinum toxin is a muscle relaxant that causes the affected muscles to relax so that they can no longer contract excessively. The wrinkles are smoothed out and new wrinkles are prevented at the same time.

After the smoker’s lines injection, small irregularities may still remain in the skin while the medication takes effect. The final result is visible after around 1 – 2 weeks.

Durability

After your treatment, you can expect results that usually last between 4-8 months. A combination treatment with hyaluronic acid or a laser can both prolong and improve your results.

There is no reason not to repeat the treatment after some time and have the result refreshed. Studies have found that treatment with Botox ® has no negative long-term consequences.

Costs

The prices are calculated according to the GOÄ and are to be understood as guide prices. When removing the smoker lines at Aesthetify by DR. RICK & DR. NICK with Botox® you can expect a price of approx. 200.00 €. However, we will inform you individually about all costs incurred in a personal appointment.

Pain

The removal of smoker’s lines is generally a very painless treatment. Possible pain from the injection is alleviated by using a local anesthetic with a cream so that you experience as little discomfort as possible.

Injecting smoker's lines: What you should look out for

It is important to take it easy immediately after the treatment. To simplify the healing process, you can cool the mouth area. In general, heat, sun and sport should be avoided for 3 – 5 days after the smoker’s wrinkle treatment. It is important to apply sunscreen to the affected area for 1 – 2 weeks.

Aesthetify by DR. RICK & DR. NICK offers you a solution for these unsightly wrinkles: Minimally invasive treatments that can smooth out these lines and give you back smooth, youthful skin. Like wrinkles on the forehead, smoker’s lines can be treated with botulinum. The muscle relaxant known as Botox ® is injected with a needle so that the wrinkles are smoothed out in the long term.

A change is very noticeable after just a few days. The wrinkles are tightened and the skin is visibly smoother. The botulinum under the skin not only helps to remove smoker’s lines, but also prevents the formation of new wrinkles.

When the effect of Botox® slowly diminishes, a new procedure can be carried out to prolong and maintain the desired result.

Aesthetify by DR. RICK & DR. NICK offers a variety of minimally invasive treatments, including Botox®fillers and laser treatments. Botox ® is a safe and effective method to reduce and prevent wrinkles in the future.

Fillers can be used to restore volume in the affected areas and minimize or even completely eliminate wrinkles. A combination treatment with a light lip injection often makes sense in order to minimize wrinkles at the lip transition and restore lost volume.

Laser treatments can also be effective in improving skin structure and collagen levels.

The minimally invasive treatments from DR. RICK & DR. NICK are safe, fast and effective. They use the latest technologies to treat smoker’s lines and tighten your skin.

Our experts will find the perfect treatment for your needs and provide comprehensive aftercare to ensure you are happy with your results.

Removing smoker's lines - risks, side effects and long-term consequences

As the removal of smoker’s lines is a minimally invasive procedure, it involves very few risks and side effects. Botulinum is generally a very well-tolerated substance, which is why allergies and intolerances are very unlikely. However, slight reactions may occur immediately after treatment. These include

  • Swelling
  • Redness
  • Bruises

However, these reactions disappear completely after 1-2 days.

FAQ

1.

How long does the smoker's wrinkle injection with botulinum last?

The effect of Botox® lasts between 4 and 8 months. The result can be longer-lasting and improved with a combination treatment. A refresher treatment can then be carried out to maintain the effect.

2.

How do you get rid of smoker's wrinkles?

Smoker’s wrinkles are caused by smoking and repeated contractions of the facial muscles. To get rid of the wrinkles, excessive mouth puckering should be reduced, which is possible with Botox. With age, the muscle tone around the mouth area increases, which leads to subconscious mouth puckering.

As with smoking, this also promotes wrinkles around the mouth.

3.

Where do mouth wrinkles come from?

Mouth wrinkles, also known as marionette lines or nasolabial folds, are caused by the natural ageing of the skin. Over time, the skin loses collagen and elastin, which causes it to become thinner and less elastic.

Repetitive movements such as laughing, talking and chewing can contribute to these wrinkles becoming deeper. Other factors such as smoking, sun damage and a poor diet can increase the appearance of mouth wrinkles.
